'Your Choice' Preference Service for Unaddressed Mail

Unaddressed Material

Many local and national organisations communicate information to people using unaddressed mail and door-to-door materials delivered directly to their homes. These items can include free newspapers, magazines, flyers, leaflets, advertising brochures, and charity marketing.

Organisations that communicate in this manner include local authorities, charities, utility companies (e.g. gas, water, and electricity), political parties, and local shops and businesses.

These types of items are delivered to the majority of households within a specific area, without the need to request or retain the homeowner's name and address on record.

Unaddressed mail, or 'door-to-door' items (e.g. items without individual names or addresses), are delivered to homes by various companies.

Stopping the delivery of Unaddressed Mail

While the communications carried by door-to-door distribution companies are typically valuable and informative, these companies acknowledge that not everyone may wish to receive such items.

Members of the DMA agree to respect the expressed wishes of householders who prefer not to receive unaddressed materials through their letterboxes.

The following details outline how householders can exercise their right to 'Your Choice' and request that distribution companies cease the delivery of unaddressed mail to their residences. While this action may not completely eliminate all unaddressed mail or door-to-door materials, since some distributors may not be members of the DMA, it should considerably reduce the amount of unaddressed mail that householders receive.
