MPS - Mailing Preference Service

Unaddressed Mail



The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) will prevent the receipt of personally addressed (name and address) unsolicited direct mailings sent from member companies of the Data & Marketing Association, as well as reputable companies which send direct mail.

The MPS is unable to stop unaddressed leaflets. If they are delivered by Royal Mail you can register with their Opt-out service:

Mailings addressed to "The Occupier", "The Homeowner" etc. which include your postal address can only be stopped by contacting the mailers directly asking them to suppress your address details from their listings.

  • How does MPS Work?

    To make sure consumers registered on the MPS are not sent the mailing, the prospect mailing list is cleaned against the MPS file.

    If there is a match between a consumer’s name and address on the mailing list and on the MPS the company knows not to send the mailing to that consumer.

    It saves companies money not to contact people who have indicated they are not interested in receiving mail.

    A mailing campaign can take several weeks to prepare. Selection of the lists to be mailed is one of the first stages in preparation of a campaign.

    That’s why it can take 2 - 4 months for a registration on MPS to have a full effect, you will however notice a gradual change over this period.

  • How does MPS Work?

    The Mailing Preference Service will stop personally addressed unsolicited mail, you can still expect to receive mailings from companies you have done businesses with and charities whom you have contacted.

    You may also receive mail from small local companies. If you would like these mailing to be stopped, you must notify these companies directly. We cannot guarantee that overseas mailings will be stopped.
